Lumentum's CEO Told Bloomberg TV Its AI Optical Parts Are Sold Out Through Early 2029, a Year Later Than He Said in April — LITE Closed Up 5.2% on a Day Chip Stocks Fell

In a Bloomberg Television interview in Tokyo on Friday, Oct 9, 2026, Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston said the company's optical components for AI data centers are sold out through early 2029; in April he had said its 2028 capacity would be booked within two quarters. He said Lumentum cannot meet about 70% of demand for some products next year and about 30% for others through 2028, that customers are starting to lock in orders for 2030, and that new laser capacity takes about three years to reach customers. All of these figures come from that one interview; Lumentum has not filed them. On Friday Lumentum's shares closed up 5.2% at $1,103.36, after falling 5.6% on Thursday, when a report put OpenAI's annualized revenue below earlier estimates; the iShares Semiconductor ETF fell 0.7% on Friday as Bloomberg reported OpenAI expects $70 billion in annualized revenue by year-end. Sold out describes orders booked, not revenue shipped.
