The US Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS) AI supplement measured the intensity of AI task substitution in US firms. The share of firms reporting a "large number" of tasks replaced by AI increased from 2.5% in the December 2023-February 2024 supplement to 7% in the November 2025-January 2026 supplement. During the same period, the share of firms reporting a "small number" of replaced tasks declined from 85% to 71%.
