The Nasdaq 100 Closed at a Record 30,807.93 on Oct 2, a Day After the 10-Year Treasury Touched 5.34%, Its Highest Since 2002 — the First Nasdaq 100 Record Since at Least 2009 With the 10-Year Above 5%

The Nasdaq 100 closed at 30,807.93 on Friday, Oct 2, 2026, a record close above the 30,732.40 set on Sep 22, after a record intraday high of 31,017.53. A day earlier the 10-year Treasury yield touched 5.342% intraday, its highest since 2002 according to Reuters, and it closed Friday at 5.277%, up on the day after dipping on the morning's jobs report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported September payrolls up 29,000 against about 85,000 expected, with unemployment at 4.2%, a soft print that cooled rate-hike bets and lifted chip stocks; Nvidia and AMD both set records in the same session. In the market-data feed's history since 2009, no Nasdaq 100 record close came with the 10-year above 5%: at the Sep 22 record the 10-year was 4.97%. The yield rose about 88 basis points in the third quarter, the biggest quarterly rise this century per Reuters, on Fed tightening expectations, the Iran war, the US fiscal outlook and heavy corporate issuance for the AI build-out. Bloomberg wrote on Oct 4 that the 10-year's edge over the equity market's earnings yield is the widest since 2002 and that the AI rally now has to beat a risk-free paycheck. The card names the drivers and attributes the record to none of them.
