Bigger Bill, Same Exit: Anthropic's SpaceX Compute Deal Now Up to $84.5B

Anthropic's confidential IPO prospectus, reported by Reuters on Sept 29, 2026, discloses that Anthropic could pay SpaceX up to $84.5 billion for Nvidia-based compute capacity through May 2029 — nearly double the roughly $45 billion figure Bloomberg reported in May from SpaceX's own earlier paperwork, for the same underlying Cloud Services Agreement (SpaceX's SEC S-1 filing details $1.25 billion/month for ~325,000 Nvidia GPUs). The agreement can mostly be cancelled with 90 days' notice — the ceiling figure is not a locked-in liability. The deal is one line item in Anthropic's disclosed $518 billion, decade-long infrastructure spending plan spanning six technology partners including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and SpaceX; Anthropic's prospectus also disclosed a $42 billion net loss in 2025 and $7.33 billion in compute/infrastructure spend last year, more than triple 2024's figure.

Receipts

Flagged:Primary is Reuters' report (via its Yahoo Finance syndication), the outlet that directly viewed Anthropic's confidential IPO prospectus — that document itself is not public. Corroborated by SpaceX's own SEC S-1/A filing, a public regulatory document that independently discloses the underlying Cloud Services Agreement terms ($1.25B/month through May 2029, ~325,000 Nvidia GPUs, cancellable with 90 days' notice). The 'nearly double' comparison is anchored to Bloomberg's own May 20, 2026 reporting of the ~$45B figure from SpaceX's earlier paperwork — an independent data point from a different outlet at an earlier date, not a number restated from the same Sept 29 report. The Information's own briefing is additional same-day independent pickup. This is the same underlying Anthropic-SpaceX compute relationship being re-disclosed at a larger cumulative total, not two different deals — the card's 'nearly double' framing reflects that distinction explicitly rather than implying a new, separate contract.
