AMD Closed at a Record $633.91 on Oct 2, Its 24th Record Close of 2026 and Up 196% This Year — the Same Day Nvidia's Record High Didn't Survive the Close

AMD closed at $633.91 on Friday, Oct 2, 2026, a record close 0.5% above the previous record of $630.63 set on Sep 25, after an intraday high of $645.46 that was also a record. It was the stock's 24th record close of 2026. From $214.16 at the end of 2025 the shares are up 196%, nearly tripling in nine months, including a 30% gain in September alone; Nvidia is up about 25% over the same stretch. On 1,632,475,042 shares outstanding (AMD's 10-Q, as of Jul 29, 2026) the close values the company at about $1.03 trillion, a threshold it first crossed on Sep 21. The same session, Nvidia set a record high of $237.88 and closed at $233.95, below its May 14 record close, so the AI trade's leader faded while the challenger held. The driver was shared: the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported September payrolls up 29,000 with unemployment at 4.2%, a soft print that cooled rate-hike bets and sent the Nasdaq 100 to a record close; the iShares Semiconductor ETF rose 2.18% and AMD 2.95%. AMD's last company-specific news was its $8.2 billion all-stock acquisition of World Labs at the end of September; its Q2 2026 10-Q reported revenue of $11.536 billion, up 50%, with data-centre revenue of $6.718 billion, up 107%.
